Sydney doctor John Balafas charged with assaulting woman

Dr John Balafas from the Sydney suburb of Bondi has been charged after allegedly attacking a woman at Dover Heights, The Daily Telegraph has reported.

The 49-year-old doctor was previously convicted of assault and intimidation last month, after court documents alleged he threatened a female with an axe, punched her and smashed a glass on her legs.

At the time, Dr Balafas was sentenced to an 18-month community correction order.

The latest alleged assault at Dover Heights between Sunday, June 25 and Monday, June 26, again drew the attention of police.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Dr Balafas has been charged with domestic violence related assault occasioning actual bodily harm, stalk or intimidate, and contravene prohibition or restriction in an apprehended domestic violence order. No pleas have been entered.

Dr Balafas was granted bail on Tuesday at Waverley Local Court by Magistrate Jacqueline Milledge. The new charges were adjourned to be mentioned at Downing Centre Local Court on July 5.
