Sydney and Athens streets among the most expensive retail districts in the world

Pitt Street Mall in the heart of the Sydney CBD in Australia and Ermou Street in Athens are among the most expensive retail districts in the world, according to a Main Streets Across the World report.

The report tracks the top retail districts across 92 cities and ranks the most expensive by prime rental value.

Pitt Street Mall in Sydney has slipped to 8th position from 7th. The rent in Pitt Street Mall is 7,624 euros per square metre per year, down by 24 percent compared to the pre-pandemic period.

Meanwhile, Ermou Street in Athens is the 14th most expensive shopping street in the world, up one spot compared to pre-pandemic levels.

The rent in the largest Greek commercial square for high-end shops is currently at 3,200 euros per square metre per year, down by 4 percent compared to the pre-pandemic period.

The most expensive shopping street in the world for 2022 is New York’s Fifth Avenue.
