Tourgelis family lists iconic Opus Design storefront in Paddington

·

The Tourgelis-owned Opus Design – a much-loved gift and homewares store – has officially hit the market, with their iconic shopfront at 354 Oxford Street in Paddington, Sydney, now up for sale.

A staple of the eastern suburbs since 1968, Opus Design has charmed generations of locals and visitors with its curated range of homewares and quirky gifts.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the Tourgelis family purchased the art deco-style ‘York House’ building in 2012, establishing it as the store’s fourth Paddington location in 2015.

Now, after what he calls an “incredible journey,” Chris Tourgelis – who has worked at Opus for 28 years and co-owns it with his sister Irene Mihailou – says the time has come to “reinvest in other things.”

He cited a mix of factors behind the decision, including shifts in interest rates, and confirmed the property has already drawn strong attention from a “who’s who of the east.”

As for what’s next, the family hasn’t made any firm decisions.

“We’re open to a lot of different things,” Chris said, leaving the door open to remaining involved if the future buyer is interested.

“It’s been a family success story.”
