Police investigate suspicious fire at Torrensville butcher shop Corinthian Meats

·

A popular Adelaide butcher shop has been left badly damaged after a suspicious fire broke out in the early hours of Monday morning.

Emergency services were called to Corinthian Meats on Henley Beach Road, Torrensville, just before 5.30am, after the store’s front door was reportedly smashed and a fire deliberately lit inside.

Fire crews quickly contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring properties. However, the inside of the shop was completely gutted, with thick soot covering the counters and floors.

Owner Peter Marinis said he was shocked by the incident and unsure why his business had been targeted.

An adjoining business suffered minor smoke damage, while no injuries were reported.

Fire cause investigators are examining the scene, and SA Police are appealing to anyone who saw suspicious activity or has CCTV or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
