Peter V’landys slams Mark Latham over public disclosure of home address

·

Racing NSW chief executive Peter V’landys has accused independent MP Mark Latham of crossing the line after his home address was made public in a parliamentary committee hearing.

“I don’t blame Mr Latham. I blame the other people in parliament who have allowed him to use this most important institution to run his personal vendettas against individuals, and there are many,” V’landys told Sydney Morning Herald.

“On this occasion, jeopardising the safety of my family has crossed the line and lacks any human decency.”

Racing NSW alleged that Latham’s intention in raising the address was “to publicly disclose” V’landys’ personal information.

The details will now be struck from the official transcript, with committee chair Jeremy Buckingham describing Latham’s actions as “unnecessary and reckless” and “clearly an abuse of [parliamentary] privilege.”

The dispute adds to ongoing hostilities between the pair, which began during an inquiry into the now-abandoned plan to sell Rosehill racecourse. Latham, who has faced multiple controversies over his use of parliamentary privilege, defended his actions on Wednesday.

NSW government leader in the Legislative Council Penny Sharpe called the incident “another misuse of the parliament by Mr Latham,” accusing him of “doxxing by sharing a private address in a public hearing.” The matter will be added to the Privileges Committee inquiry into his conduct.
