Mitsotakis says Greece will recognise Palestinian state when conditions align

·

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis confirmed on Sunday that Greece intends to recognise a Palestinian state, but stressed the decision will be taken at the right time to best support efforts toward a two-state solution.

Speaking at the 89th Thessaloniki International Fair, he explained that the timing and manner of recognition must contribute meaningfully to peace.

Mitsotakis also defended Greece’s close ties with Israel, insisting the strategic partnership has not prevented Athens from voicing strong concerns over the civilian suffering in Gaza.

He said Greece has “harshly criticised” Israel’s military actions, condemning the “unimaginable human pain and loss of human life” caused by the conflict.

The Prime Minister reiterated Greece’s call for an immediate ceasefire, urging that it should both end the humanitarian crisis and ensure the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
