Melbourne woman Kalli Doukas fighting for life after hit-and-run crash

·

Kalli Doukas, 66, is fighting for her life in hospital after a hit-and-run crash in Melbourne that has left police outraged and her family devastated.

Doukas was just minutes from home when her BMW was struck by a Ford Falcon, suspected to be stolen, in a high-speed collision that wrecked two cars and damaged a third.

“She was doing nothing wrong. The other car is being driven at high speed recklessly,” Detective Acting Sergeant Leigh Miller said.

Her husband, Bill Doukas, said the trauma has been overwhelming. “When I see my wife … bed-in-law I miss. The mental anguish that everyone has to go through is phenomenal,” he said.

An Uber driver’s car was also hit in the crash, though he escaped injury. Witnesses described seeing the suspects remove number plates from the wrecked Falcon before fleeing, with the plates later recovered in a nearby drain.

Police say they have strong leads on the driver and passenger. “We’ve got a fair idea who we’re looking for. And if he wants to hand himself in, that’s great. If he doesn’t, well, we’ll find him,” Miller said.
