Mariana Papaioannou joins Multicultural Arts Victoria Board in landmark year of change

·

Multicultural Arts Victoria (MAV) has welcomed Mariana Papaioannou, acclaimed media producer and photographer, to its Board following the organisation’s 2025 Annual General Meeting.

Known for her creative vision and commitment to inclusive storytelling, Papaioannou brings valuable industry insight and fresh energy to MAV’s mission of championing diverse voices and cultural equity.

She joins at a pivotal moment for the organisation, as it farewells outgoing CEO Lauren Mullings, whose tenure saw significant achievements including a new partnership with Melbourne Polytechnic Preston, the launch of MAV’s 50-year legacy program Retrospection, and the influential Beyond Tokenism report.

Mullings also secured major multi-year funding for Powered By and NEWPRINT, MAV’s flagship live music and producer development initiative.

As MAV continues its leadership transition, Daizy Maan has stepped in as Acting CEO, bringing warmth and purpose-led leadership to guide the next phase.

Papaioannou’s appointment is part of a broader board refresh, with new members Hiten Bawa and Tienyi Long also joining, alongside the reappointment of Linda Catalano and Patrizia Fimiani. Together, the board represents deep expertise across the arts, governance, access, and community engagement.

With renewed funding of $200,000 from the Victorian Government’s 10,000 Gigs initiative, NEWPRINT is set to support over 50 culturally diverse artists and emerging producers through 2026.

MAV’s recently released 2024 Annual Report also highlights the impact of major programs, financial stability, and its vision for equity-driven, artist-led transformation.

As the organisation looks ahead to its 2025–2028 Strategic Plan, Papaioannou’s voice will be instrumental in shaping a vibrant, inclusive future for Victoria’s creative sector.
