John Pesutto elected as new Victorian Liberal Party leader

·

Hawthorn MP John Pesutto has been elected as the new leader of the Victorian Liberal Party.

The party held its first meeting since their defeat in last month’s state elections where Victorians saw Labor leader Dan Andrews re-elected for another term.

Berwick MP Brad Battin also stood for the top job but was unsuccessful in the secret ballot.

After losing a second election to Daniel Andrews earlier this month and leading the Liberals to a disastrous 2018 campaign, former opposition leader Matthew Guy stepped down as leader.

After his win, Mr. Pesutto said that he was honoured to have been chosen to lead the party.

“I was very humbled by this result. It means a lot to be given this opportunity by our party colleagues to be the best we can by our party,” he said.
