·

Jacinta Allan has been elected the leader of the Victorian Labor Party, meaning she will become the state’s 49th premier.

Ms Allan will be just the second female premier in Victoria after Joan Kirner who served from 1990 to 1992.

Ben Carroll, a senior figure from the Right who initially challenged her for the position, will serve as her deputy as part of a deal between the Left and Right factions.
