Giannis Antetokounmpo mural in Milwaukee complete

After 13 days and 250 hours of painting, a three-storey mural of Milwaukee Bucks star, Giannis Antetokounmpo, has been completed in the Wisconsin city of Milwaukee. 

The 16.5 by 17-metre artwork was created by American artist Mauricio Ramirez on the east facade of the 600 East building at 600 E Wisconsin Avenue.

The mural depicts the Greek two-time MVP wearing his green Bucks jersey, with his name emblazoned in white font across the back.

In an interview with FOX6 Milwaulkee, Ramirez explained why he featured Antetokounmpo in his largest ever photorealistic artwork. 

“The ultimate thing, growing up, was to paint Michael Jordan. I think Giannis is the new it player to paint or draw,” he said. 

On Tuesday, the artist took to his Instagram, describing the artwork as “a way of paying homage to our hometown hero in a way that’s grand”. 

“This collaboration is a nod to one of the greatest basketball players in the game and what he has done and continues to do for our city,” he added.
