Former Brisbane doctor Stan Theodoros charged with 148 alleged sexual offences

·

Former Brisbane GP Stan Theodoros has been charged with 148 alleged sexual offences following a major Queensland Police investigation involving 15 former patients.

Police allege Stellios “Stan” Theodoros, 74, sexually assaulted women aged from their late teens to 40s while working as a doctor at a Tarragindi medical centre between the early 2000s and 2015.

The former Wellers Hill Medical Centre GP has been charged with 94 counts of rape and 54 counts of sexual assault after detectives from the Upper Mount Gravatt Criminal Investigation Branch launched Operation Xray Cariyna in August last year.

Theodoros worked at the practice until retiring in 2021 and was removed as a company director last year.

Detective Senior Sergeant Denis Silk urged anyone with information to “come forward directly to us or anonymously to Crime Stoppers”.

One former patient who reported allegations to police described the charges as “a long time coming”.

“It’s such a relief. This is the biggest milestone and it needed to be known that charges have been laid,” she said.

Theodoros is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on June 23, while police say investigations remain ongoing.
