New South Wales Finance Minister, Courtney Houssos MP, has accused a Liberal MP of sexism after he questioned her husband’s role at a peak insurance lobby.

According to ABC News, Coalition MP Damien Tudehope questioned the minister in budget estimates on Thursday about whether her husband’s work at the Insurance Council of Australia constituted a conflict of interest.

Minister Houssos asserted there was no conflict of interest, and her marriage to the senior lobbyist was disclosed in accordance with the ministerial code of conduct.

“This is a baseless sexist attack on my professional reputation, and on my husband’s professional reputation” Houssos said.

In response, Mr Tudehope told ABC News the claim that he was being sexist was a “distraction” from a legitimate issue.
