Greek and Cypriot leaders send messages ahead of OXI Day

A number of Greek and Cypriot leaders in Australia and abroad have issued commemorative messages ahead of OXI Day on Saturday, October 28.

In his OXI Day message, Greece’s Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Georgios Kotsiras spoke about the history of October 28 and how the Greek diaspora continue to live by the Greek ideals of freedom and democracy.

Greece’s General Secretary for Greeks Abroad, John Chrysoulakis, has also issued a message to mark OXI Day. In his message, Mr Chrysoulakis said the same fighting spirit of 1940 remains in Greeks today.

The Ambassador of Greece in Australia, George Papacostas, has sent a message to The Greek Herald ahead of OXI Day and in it, he praises the memory of the heroes and heroines of 1940.

The High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus in Australia, Antonis Sammoutis, has issued a message to Australia’s Greek diaspora to mark OXI Day. In his message, Mr Sammoutis touched on the Cyprus issue and praised the Cypriot Australians who fought bravely during WWII in Greece.
