‘Her Voice, Greek Women and their Friends’ book launch to raise funds for domestic violence

Varvara Athanasiou-Ioannou’s new book Her Voice, Greek Women and their Friends will be launched in South Geelong, Victoria on Sunday, March 12 as part of International Women’s Day celebrations and in recognition of Cultural Diversity Week.

The book launch is being organised by Suzy Bourdamis and Maria Dimopoulos AM, in collaboration with the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Centre.

Varvara Athanasiou-Ioannou’s book celebrates 42 women’s stories, their achievements, diverse voices and intersectionality. The women featured in the book, from all walks of life, are academics, educators, entrepreneurs, writers, municipal counsellors, journalists, lawyers, scientists, politicians and more.

In their stories, many of the women talk about overcoming gender-based challenges, intersectional representation, their tenacious attitude to work and life, and the importance of their heritage and family.

“This collection of stories features relatable role models, whose strength and resilience will inspire many generations of future Greek women and their friends to come, and will also instigate dialogue among families, Boards and community organisations,” Varvara said in a press release.

On the day of the launch, three women who feature in the book – Professor Vasso Apostolopoulos, Maria Dimopoulos and Varvara – will inspire the audience with their stories.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to purchase a signed copy of the book. Tickets to the event are $25 individual ticket / $200 table of 10. All proceeds from the ticket sales will go to the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Centre. Registration is needed here.
