The largest Zorba dance of the Aegean takes place on Lesvos

·

A unique celebration took place on the waterfront of Mytilene over the weekend as part of the “Lesvos Summer 2023” festival.

According to in.gr, people and visitors of the island had the opportunity to see a piano on a sailboat, surrounded by 13 other boats full of dancers, following the sounds of Zorba.

The spectacle was the largest Zorba dance to take place in the Aegean.

Dancers kept impressing spectators as the sailboats of the Lesvos Open Sea Club sailed in a circle to sounds of the pianist Elena Xydia, and people on the quay of the port followed with their own steps to form a unique sirtaki celebration.

This was a magic start for the biggest summer festival of Greece on the island.

The biggest Zorba dance of the Aegean was organised by the vice-mayor of Culture of the Municipality of Mytilini, upon the invitation of the mayor Stratis Kytelis and the vice-mayor Panagiotis Tsakiris, and by the dance group of Kostas Agopian.

The idea and direction came from Paschalis Mantis and the volunteer team implementing the event: Stelios Zafeiropoulos, Toula Vougiouka and Vassilis Badavis.
