The Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature (EEPP) has announced that 617 Greek coasts, 18 marinas and six pleasure boats won this year’s Blue Flag international quality award.
The Blue Flag international program is a global voluntary award for beaches, marinas, and sustainable tourism boats.
In order to qualify for the Blue Flag, a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility criteria must be met and maintained.
Spain topped the global list with the most ‘Blue Flag’ Awards, receiving 729 Blue Flags.
Within Greece, the region of Chalkidiki placed first with 94 Blue Flags, followed by Rhodes with 57 Blue Flags, and Crete with 48 Blue Flags.
