Greece misses out as Cyprus and Australia storm into Eurovision grand final

·

Cyprus and Australia are through to the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday, May 13 in Liverpool, the United Kingdom, but Greece has missed out this year.

Cyprus’ song entry Break a Broken Heart by Cypriot Australian, Andrew Lambrou, wowed the audience with its simple staging and strong vocals by Lambrou.

Australia’s Voyager, a 5-piece Perth-based band, also had broad appeal as they took over the stage with their performance of Promise.

Greece’s youngest Eurovision entry at age 16, Victor Vernicos, wasn’t lucky enough this year to grab a spot in the Eurovision grand final with his song What they Say.

Since the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) first introduced the semi-final formal in 2004, Greece has only failed to qualify twice: in 2016 with Argo’s ‘Utopian Land’ and in 2018 with Yianna Terzi’s ‘Oniro Mou’.

The Eurovision grand final lineup is now complete with 26 countries taking part as follows: Ukraine, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Norway, Serbia, Portugal, Croatia, Switzerland, Israel, Moldova, Sweden, Czechia, Finland, Albania, Cyprus, Estonia, Belgium, Austria, Lithuania, Poland, Australia, Armenia, and Slovenia.
