Medieval City of Rhodes to be protected under new agreement

After 39 years, the second “Cultural Development Agreement for the Protection and Promotion of the Medieval City of Rhodes” was signed last week for an initial period of 10 years.

The agreement ultimately covers the maintenance, protection and promotion of the UNESCO World Heritage listed Medieval City of Rhodes.

It encourages contracting parties to develop strong partnerships and a common, unified action framework that is to be implemented through agreed upon methods, means and procedures.

Contracting parties will also utilise modern technologies and developments for the economic wellbeing of the Medieval City of Rhodes, as well as use the prescribed financial resources to execute studies, projects, actions and services.

Above all, parties to the agreement pledged to ensure sustainable and fair development of the region of the Medieval City of Rhodes.
