Saint Nectarios Burwood volunteers prepare 800 red eggs for Orthodox Easter

·

The Ladies Philoptochos from the Greek Orthodox Parish and Community of Saint Nectarios Burwood supercharged their egg dyeing efforts on Holy Thursday by preparing 800 red eggs.

The eggs will be distributed to the faithful at the Resurrection service on Saturday night.

Dyeing eggs red on Holy Thursday is an important Easter ritual as it represents the blood that Christ shed on the Cross. The tradition of cracking the red eggs symbolises the cracking of Christ’s tomb and the bonds of death and Christ’s Resurrection.

In a post on Facebook, the parish thanked the Ladies Philoptochos for supporting the needs of the church at Easter over the last couple of weeks.

“We are so grateful for all that they do for us,” the post reads.

The Ladies Philoptochos have also baked over 1,000 tsourekia in regular and mini sizes this Easter, alongside chocolate chip and sugar-free flavours.

This Holy Friday is the last day to buy a fresh tsoureki from the church courtyard or order online at https://stnectariosburwood.ecwid.com/Tsourekia-c147597275
