Erdogan and Biden send messages to mark Greek Independence Day

·

The leaders of Turkey and the United States have sent messages to Greece to mark Independence Day on March 25.

‘Cooperation will further develop’:

Erdogan.

In a letter to Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his best wishes for Greek Independence Day and thanked the Greek government for its solidarity during the earthquake which struck Turkey and Syria in February killing over 50,000 people.

“I am convinced that the relationship and cooperation between our two countries will further develop through our joint periods in the period to come,” Erdogan noted in his letter.

“I seize the occasion to reiterate my best wishes both for your personal peace and prosperity, as well as the peace and prosperity of the Greek people.”

‘Our alliance has never been stronger’:

Joe Biden.

In a message for Greek Independence Day, US President Joe Biden noted that the Greek-US alliance has never been stronger.

Biden also said his country’s founders had been inspired by ancient Athenian Democracy and extolled the contributions of Greek Americans to the US economy, noting his own longstanding ties to the Greek American community.

“This Greek Independence Day, as we mark 202 years of friendship between the modern Hellenic Republic and the United States, let us recommit to defending democracy together – standing up for the rights, equality, and dignity of all people,” Biden concluded.
