Greek Prime Minister meets with US President in Washington on official visit

·

Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with US President, Joe Biden at the White House on Monday as a part of his official visit to Washington DC.

President Biden talked about his close, personal friendship with the Greek Prime Minister and referred to the democratic ideals born in Greece, that inspired the United States and are unfortunately tried by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a government he says run by autocrats.

The two leaders have many discussions on their agenda, and they will include the defence and trade partnerships, energy security and climate change according to Biden’s introductory comments to the press.

“Today our friendship and partnership between our countries, between Greeks and Americans, I think is more important than ever,” said President Biden.

“I’m honoured to celebrate the partnership with you.”

Prime Minister Mitsotakis referred to the significance of currently celebrating the bicentennial of the Greek War of Independence, which was also inspired by the Americans struggle for independence.

Over the last two centuries Greece and the United States have fought wars together and are now united in facing the challenge of the Ukraine war, he said.

“My visit to the United States is an opportunity to reassess the status of our relationship, which I honestly believe is at an all-time high,” said the Prime Minister, further highlighting Greece’s role as a reliable partner, and pillar of stability in the region.
