Greece relaxes COVID-19 restrictions ahead of European summer

·

After two years of the COVID-19 pandemic and unprecedented restrictive measures, Greece returned to normal on Sunday, May 1 ahead of the European summer season.

Greece’s civil aviation authority announced on Sunday it was lifting all COVID-19 rules for international and domestic flights except for the wearing of face masks during flights and at airports.

However, according to the Greek government’s website and smarttraveller.gov.au, Australian travellers to Greece will still need a COVID-19 vaccination certificate that’s no more than 9 months old.

Once these travellers arrive in Greece that they will be able to enjoy relaxed COVID-19 restrictions.

For example, there will no longer be the screening of COVID-19 vaccination certificates or test results to be granted access to indoor and outdoor seating, and venues will also return to full capacity.

The wearing of masks indoors, including in shops, museums, hotel lobbies and public transportation, will remain compulsory at least until the end of May.

Greece saw tourism revenues plunge in 2020 and only partially rebound in 2021. Greece is now hoping for a record tourism year in 2022.
