Girls top Modern Greek in HSC 2019

·

As NSW students patiently await their HSC results at 6am on Tuesday, the NSW Education Standards Authority honoured those students who excelled in their subjects, placing first in NSW in their course.

Overall, 126 students from 88 schools claimed 135 first place awards for HSC courses in 2019.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said: ”These students have worked extremely hard and put in countless hours of effort and study, and they should be very proud of their remarkable academic achievements.”

Education Minister Sarah Mitchell noted that 790 students would receive a top achievers award for reaching a state ranking in a particular subject; 1449 would receive an all-rounder achievers award for gaining the top band in 10 units or more; and there would be 17,122 distinguished achievers who receive the top band in at least one subject.

“Our experienced and dedicated NSW teachers, along with family and friends have supported and encouraged these young people to achieve the highest possible result in an HSC course,” Ms Mitchell said.

In languages, there were 18 students from the Saturday School of Community Languages who placed first in their course. Among these students was Savina-Ipapanti Ellina, from the Saturday School of Community Languages St George High School, who placed first in Modern Greek Continuers and Extension.

There were also 11 students from the NSW School of Languages who secured a first place ranking, including Stella Kretzas who placed first in NSW in Modern Greek Beginners.

In Classical Greek, Sebastian Joseph Braham from St Ignatius’ College placed first in NSW in Classical Greek Continuers and Extension.

All HSC 2019 results will be released tomorrow at 6am.

Congratulations to these high achieving students pursuing the Greek language!
