Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has called for a third consecutive election victory for New Democracy, declaring the party and the country are strongest when united.
Speaking at the close of the party’s three-day congress, Mitsotakis said: “We are more united than ever. When New Democracy is united, Greece is united as well; when New Democracy wins, the homeland also wins.”
He described another New Democracy victory as “a national necessity” to avoid “instability and experimentation” and confirmed elections would be held in 2027 at the end of the government’s term.
Mitsotakis highlighted the government’s economic record since 2019, noting unemployment had fallen from 18 per cent and that “600,000 jobs” had been created. He also pointed to Greece’s recovery of investment-grade status, rising wages and pensions, and lower public debt.
“As a government, we cannot leave the younger generation a great debt, its reduction is a national duty and national imperative,” he said, while acknowledging inflation had weakened the impact of wage increases.
The PM also stressed the importance of artificial intelligence in modernising public administration, saying New Democracy was uniquely positioned to address future challenges.
Looking ahead, Mitsotakis outlined priorities focused on economic growth, national security and institutional reform, while urging party members to begin engaging with the public ahead of the 2027 election campaign.
“Let’s go together for the Greece of 2030,” he said.
