Tom Koutsantonis’ wife shares life behind the scenes with SA Treasurer

South Australian Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis may be known for his fiery exchanges in parliament, but at home he is “a really, really kind soul,” according to his wife, Anthea Koutsantonis.

Speaking to The Advertiser for the Home Affairs series, Anthea revealed how she often tells her husband to ease up on political rivals, saying, “I liked [former SA Premier] Steven Marshall, I always liked him and I would always say ‘just leave him alone’.”

She also described him as a devoted father to their two daughters, Tia, 15, and Helena, 12, often acting as the “good cop” while she is the “bad cop.”

“He overcompensates I think or they know what they can get away with,” she said of his parenting style.

Anthea offered a candid look at domestic life, including Tom’s lingering Christmas lights, scattered Coke cans, and his culinary efforts on the outdoor rotisserie.

Despite his occasional domestic quirks, Anthea praised Tom’s dedication and motivation: “I remember when I first met him I said ‘why do you do what you do’ and he said ‘because I can make a difference’ … His passion can get confused for aggression but he is a really, really kind soul.”
