Former Chania MP and Eleftherios Venizelos heir dies at 102

Former MP for Chania Eleftherios Venizelos, the last surviving grandson of statesman Eleftherios Venizelos, has died at the age of 102, the Eleftherios K. Venizelos National Research and Studies Foundation announced.

Born in Athens in August 1924 to Kyriakos Venizelos and Marika Roussou, he later studied Political and Economic Sciences at Princeton and Columbia Universities after his family settled in France and the United States before World War II.

He was elected MP for Chania in 1952 and 1956 before turning to the family shipping business.

Venizelos served for many years as president of the Liberal Club and was honorary president, Grand Benefactor and Associate of the Eleftherios K. Venizelos National Foundation.

The Foundation expressed deep emotion and extended condolences to his family.
