Australia’s Holy Eparchial Synod announces key appointments

The Holy Eparchial Synod of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia convened on Thursday, October 2, 2025, under the presidency of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.

Archbishop Makarios formally welcomed the Synod’s newest member, Bishop Athinagoras of Canberra, who was recently ordained.

The Synod also approved two new appointments: Archimandrite Amphilochios Papantoniou as Deputy Secretary and Archimandrite Eirinaios Trialonakis as Codifier.

The session additionally reviewed the recently concluded Second Pan-Australian Clergy Synaxis, which centred on the theme “Social Media and the Priesthood” and was hailed as a major success with guests from across Australia and a Patriarchal Delegation.
