Greece held off a late surge from Finland to secure a 92-89 victory on Sunday, September 14, earning third place at the 2025 EuroBasket in Riga, Latvia, the nation’s first medal in the tournament since 2009.
Led by coach Vassilis Spanoulis, Greece dominated early with strong defence and sharp three-point shooting.
Tyler Dorsey (20 points), Vassilis Toliopoulos (15), and Dinos Mitoglou hit crucial triples, while captain Kostas Papanikolaou anchored the defence.
Giannis Antetokounmpo powered Greece with 30 points, 17 rebounds, six assists, and two blocks. Despite Finland cutting the deficit to one in the final seconds, Antetokounmpo’s late free throws sealed the win.
“This is probably the greatest accomplishment in my life,” he stated.
