Sardella Day returns: A feast of music, dance and flavour in Canterbury

·

The Mytilenian Brotherhood of Sydney & NSW is preparing to host one of its most anticipated events of the year – Sardella Day – on Sunday, 21 September 2025 at Mytilenian House in Canterbury.

Doors open at 12pm and the day promises to be a vibrant celebration of Hellenic tradition, with live music, dancing and, of course, delicious Greek cuisine by Messinia Catering Services.

A beloved tradition on the Greek island of Lesvos, Sardella Day honours the island’s famous sardines, fished from the gulfs of Gera and Kalloni.

This Sydney event will bring the flavours and traditions of Lesvos to the local community, offering a menu of BBQ Sardella, fried Sardella, oven-baked Sardella, and a variety of traditional mezethakia.

President of the Mytilenian Brotherhood, Peter Psomas, says Sardella Day holds a special place in the community calendar.

“Sardella Day is a signature event on our calendar. Our members and friends always look forward to Sardella Day. A day not to be missed filled with freshly cooked mezedakia, live music and traditional dancing,” Mr Psomas said.

Guests will be treated to performances by renowned musicians Ioannis Keligiannis, John Zaharis, Sam Christodoulidis and Michael Platyrrahos, ensuring the soundtrack for the afternoon is as rich as the food. The Sydney Greek Dancing School will also take the stage, showcasing authentic traditional dances that invite everyone to join in the festivities.

With hot food, cold drinks and a hall full of family and friends, it’s set to be a true feast of flavours.

On Sunday, September 21, ‘Sardella Day’ begins at 12pm at the Mytilenian House, located at 225 Canterbury Road, Canterbury, Sydney. Entry is $45 adults / $20 kids. For bookings call or text: 0435 604 433Don’t miss out on this wonderful cultural experience!
