His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia will once again serve on the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, this time for the term running from 1 September 2025 to 28 February 2026.
The Ecumenical Patriarchate recently announced the new composition of its Synod, which is presided over by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
Archbishop Makarios had also been appointed to the previous six-month Synod, convening from 1 March to 31 August 2025, marking a consecutive term of service at the highest ecclesiastical body of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
The Synod’s new composition is as follows:

- Metropolitan Ambrosios of Karpathos and Kasos
- Metropolitan Apostolos of Miletus
- Metropolitan Athanasios of Colognia
- Metropolitan Andreas of Arkalochori, Kastelli, and Viannos
- Metropolitan Sebastian of Atlanta
- Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia
- Metropolitan Maximos of Selyvria
- Archbishop Makarios of Australia
- Metropolitan Kyrillos of Imbros and Tenedos
- Metropolitan Maximos of Switzerland
- Metropolitan Iakovos of Mexico
