Dimitri Valkanis joins Brisbane Roar from Greek giants AEK Athens FC on loan

Brisbane Roar welcome 19-year-old centre-back Dimitri Valkanis on loan from Greek Super League giants, AEK Athens FC for the upcoming 25/26 Isuzu UTE A-League season.

He joins after the Roar fended off interest from several A-Leagues clubs to secure his services.

The Roar are pleased to lock in the loan deal for the Young Socceroo who has played at Under-17, 19 and ‘B’ (reserve) team level for the Greek giants. During the 24/25 season he featured in every match for the ‘B’ team whilst training with the senior team regularly.

“I’m absolutely stoked to sign with Brisbane Roar,” Dimitri Valkanis said.

“This is a club with a proud history, big ambitions, and an incredibly passionate fan base. I’m ready to give everything for the badge and represent this city with pride.

“I believe in what I bring to the squad – energy, creativity, and a winning mentality. My goal is to help drive this team forward alongside my teammates and push to make Brisbane Roar one of the top clubs in the country.”

Speaking on the signing of the young defender, Head Coach Michael Valkanis said: “Dimitri joins us from AEK Athens as a talented, tough defender and an excellent communicator.

“With valuable European experience and as a current Under-20 youth international, he will add strength to our backline and bolster our defensive stocks.”
