UNESCO adds six Minoan palaces in Crete to World Heritage list

·

UNESCO has inscribed six key Minoan palace centres in Crete – Knossos, Phaistos, Malia, Zakros, Zominthos and Kydonia – on its World Heritage list, recognising their historical and architectural significance.

The decision, made during the 47th World Heritage Committee session, follows a multi-year nomination led by Greece’s Culture Ministry.

“These palaces were centres of culture, administration, and innovation,” said Culture Minister Lina Mendoni, calling the listing a global acknowledgment of the Minoan civilisation’s impact on early European history.
