Global Summit of Hellenic Lawyers set to launch in Athens

·

Some of the world’s most distinguished Hellenic legal minds and thought leaders are set to gather in Athens for the inaugural Global Summit of Hellenic Lawyers 2025, taking place from July 7 to 10 under the auspices of the President of the Hellenic Republic.

With the theme “Defending Democracy, the Rule of Law, and Justice – Global Challenges and the Role of Artificial Intelligence,” the four-day summit promises rich discussions at the intersection of legal practice, democratic values, and emerging technologies.

Organised by the Plenary of the Greek Bar Associations in collaboration with the Hellenic Australian Lawyers Association, the Hellenic Lawyers Association of New York, and the Cyprus Bar Association, the summit will bring together an elite international roster of legal professionals, academics and policymakers.

Among the notable Australian figures participating in various sessions are:

  • The Honourable Stephen Gageler AC, Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia
  • Justice Emilios Kyrou AO, President of the Administrative Review Tribunal and Judge of the Federal Court of Australia
  • Justice Melissa Perry, Federal Court of Australia
  • Joseph Tsalanidis, President of the Hellenic Australian Lawyers Association
  • Peter Quinlan, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Western Australia
  • Anthe Philippides, former Justice of the Queensland Court of Appeal

Topics will span from judicial independence and AI ethics, to cross-border accountability, climate change, migration, and legal reforms relevant to diaspora communities.

The Summit will open on Monday evening at the Acropolis Museum, with formal remarks from heads of state and leading legal figures, followed by three days of panels and keynote addresses at the Megaron Mousikis in central Athens.

This landmark gathering is expected to foster meaningful dialogue, strengthen international legal ties, and showcase the enduring contribution of Hellenic legal minds on the global stage.
