Trump claims Israel has agreed to 60-day Gaza ceasefire deal

·

US President Donald Trump has claimed that Israel has accepted the terms of a proposed 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, and he has urged Hamas to agree before conditions deteriorate further.

Speaking ahead of his scheduled meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, Trump said his representatives held a “long and productive meeting” with Israeli officials.

“Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalise the 60 Day CEASEFIRE, during which time we will work with all parties to end the War,” Trump wrote, adding that Qatar and Egypt would deliver the final proposal.

He also warned: “I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE.”

He indicated he would be “very firm” with Netanyahu when they meet, noting that the Israeli leader “wants to end the war” and suggesting a hostage release deal may be secured as early as next week.

While Hamas has signalled willingness to release hostages as part of a broader peace agreement, it has refused to disarm. Israel, on the other hand, insists that the war will only end if Hamas is dismantled.

Meanwhile, Israeli Minister for Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer was in Washington for talks with senior US officials concerning Gaza, Iran, and related issues.
