Mitsotakis and Zelensky discuss tougher sanctions on Russia during phone call

·

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will attend the upcoming Ukraine–Southeast Europe Summit in Odessa, following an invitation from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a recent phone call.

The summit is part of a series of regional meetings aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s ties with Southeast Europe, with Greece having hosted the first in 2023.

The two leaders also discussed ongoing military and economic assistance, as well as defence cooperation.

Zelensky praised Greece’s continued support, saying, “We are grateful for Greece’s continued readiness to help protect lives,” and noted the country’s alignment on tougher sanctions against Russia.

Their conversation also touched on broader diplomatic efforts, including recent talks with EU leaders and U.S. President Donald Trump. Mitsotakis has previously backed a 30-day ceasefire and reaffirmed Greece’s support for Ukraine in EU and NATO discussions.
