Olympiacos fans in Australia rejoice as Greek club makes football history

·

Olympiacos FC fans around Australia rejoiced on Thursday morning as the football club made history, becoming the first Greek club to win the Europa Conference League.

The Greek Herald’s sports editor Takis Triadafillou visited a pub in the Sydney suburb of Mascot to watch the match on a big screen surrounded by other Olympiacos fans. When the victory was claimed, Mr Triadafillou said Mascot “shook” with the cheers of those gathered.

“It was an unforgettable evening for the whole of Greece and Australia,” Mr Triadafillou, a long-time Olympiacos fan, said.

“The legendary Olympiacos made us proud and thrilled all the fans and supporters around the world. Mascot literally “shook” with the voices of the Olympiacos fans.”

Elsewhere, in Athens, Greece, where the Europa Conference League final between Olympiacos and Italy’s Fiorentina was taking place, Greek Australians John and Nicholas Drakoulis had the good fortune to be present.

They told The Greek Herald they were overjoyed at the win. “There is nothing better than what these eyes saw,” they said.
