Isobel Vlahiotis shares horror text messages after her sister’s fatal accident

·

On January 31 this year, everything changed for Isobel Vlahiotis when she discovered her sister was in a fatal car accident.

The Advertiser said it began when Isobel saw a police press release about a fatal accident on the Port Wakefield Highway in South Australia, and shared a screenshot to her family group chat.

This was how the family discovered their beloved daughter and sister, Odetta Maxwell, had died.

A message sent by Isobel in the thread read: “It is Odetta. She is in hospital. She’s had a serious accident. I’m trying to find out what’s going on. I thought she was with mum. I don’t know what to do.”

Prior to the crash, Odetta was at her parents home, telling her mum to “have a good day.”

25-year-old Odetta was spotted ordering food from a truck stop moments before her car went off the road.

“That’s what ended her life,” Ms Vlahiotis told The Advertiser.

After the crash, Odetta was able to pull herself from her car wreck until police and paramedics arrived. Two days later, on February 2, she died as a result of her injuries from the accident.

Following her sister’s accident, Ms Vlahiotis took to social media to advocate for road safety awareness.

“People don’t see past that moment, they don’t realise they can actually die,” she said.

“I can’t believe people still drive unsafely, the actual volume of people that have died is really up there and it’s just become so normal people are desensitised to these deaths.”

Ms Vlahiotis said she’s had thousands of people reach out to her following her videos on social media, and they shared they will be more conscious for Odetta.
