Much-loved Sydney chef Helen Demetriou passes away

Much-loved Sydney chef Helen Demetriou has passed away following a long battle with aggressive cancer.

According to an Instagram post, Ms Demetriou passed away on Friday, October 27, at the age of 57.

Ms Demetriou’s family paid tribute to the loving wife, mother and sister, and said they are “overwhelmed by grief.”

“Her absence leaves an irreplaceable void in our lives,” the family wrote on Instagram. “Though a world without her seems unimaginable, we promise to uphold her legacy as a united family.”

Tributes have since poured in for the Greek Cypriot Australian chef, with family and friends saying her death is a huge loss to the community.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday, November 2, at St George Greek Orthodox Church in Rose Bay from 12.30pm.

Ms Demetriou became well-known across Australia after starring alongside her brother Steve Georgiou in the third season of Channel 7’s TV cooking show My Kitchen Rules. She also featured in The Greek Herald’s ‘Cooking with Greek Food Bloggers’ series.
