Darwin Mayor Kon Vatskalis condemns alleged attack of NT Chief Minister

·

Darwin Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis has condemned an alleged attack against Northern Territory Chief Minister Natasha Fyles on Sunday.

Ms Fyles was at the Nightcliff Markets attending a 15th anniversary celebration for Bendigo Bank when a woman allegedly pushed a cream-covered pancake in her face, before verbally abusing her.

Footage of the alleged attack, posted to social media, shows a woman lunging at Ms Fyles before pushing a paper plate into her face.

Mr Vatskalis was present at the anniversary event but left before the incident occurred.

“I just saw the very confronting video and I think this is disgusting,” Mr Vatskalis told ABC News. “I have never seen anything like that in Darwin in the 30 years I’ve been here.”

NT Police confirmed on Monday morning they have since charged a 56-year-old woman with aggravated assault. She has been bailed to appear in the Darwin Local Court on October 10.
