Stefanos Tsitsipas sweeps into Monte Carlo quarterfinals

·

Stefanos Tsitsipas continues unbeaten in Monte Carlo, with the Greek tennis player and title holder for the last two years easily defeating Nicolas Tsari 6-3, 6-4  in 93 minutes.

This marked his 12th consecutive win at the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters, while securing qualification to the quarterfinals of the tournament for the 3rd year in a row.

Tsitsipas finished the match, in which both players suffered from strong winds (especially at the start), with 8 aces (no double faults), scored 14 winners and 14 unforced errors, erasing both break points he threatened Jarry.

The only point where Tsitsipas had difficulty in the match against the Chilean was at the end of the 1st set where he had difficulty closing it, as he needed 7 set-points.

The Greek tennis player threatened with a break in the 4th game of the 1st set with Tzari erasing both break-points with a heavy serve, but the Chilean failed to do the same in the very next service-game with Tsitsipas taking the lead with 4-2 and a little later with 5-2.

Having complete control of the court, No. 2 on the board had three chances to close the set on the serve of Jari, with the Chilean erasing them again, reducing to 5-3, with Tsitsipas taking the balls in his hands, closing the set after four set-points.

In the 2nd leg, Tsitsipas continued to press the service of the Chilean, who with the “good morning” in the set erased three more break points (1-0), with the Greek tennis player however finding a break in the 5th game (3-2) and with hold immediately after to make it 4-2.

From then on, he was not threatened in either of the two service-games he served, reaching the quarter-final stage where he awaits the winner of the match between Taylor Fritz and Jiri Lehetska.
