Sam Konstas bowled out as Australia struggles in Barbados Test

·

Young opener Sam Konstas endured another tough outing in Barbados as Australia’s top order collapsed on day two of the first Test against the West Indies.

After scoring just five runs off 38 balls, the 19-year-old was bowled by Shamar Joseph for the second time in the match, bringing his total to 121 runs from six Test innings at an average of 20.16.

Konstas, visibly nervous, was dropped twice early in his innings before inside-edging onto his stumps. His father and brother watched from the stands as the teenager’s difficult start to international cricket continued.

Australia ended the day at 4-92, leading by 82 runs after West Indies were bowled out for 190 in response to Australia’s 180. Fellow batters Cam Green and Josh Inglis also failed to fire, managing just 15 and 12 respectively.

West Indies coach Darren Sammy criticised the match officials, accusing them of inconsistency in key decisions, while Mitchell Starc acknowledged some questionable calls, saying, “There’s been some interesting ones.”

With the match finely poised, Australia faces a tough challenge to avoid a shock defeat, as West Indies push for their first Test series win over Australia since 1999.
