Norway to host Greece in men’s rugby international

In their first home fixture since 2018, Norway’s men will face Greece in a senior men’s international for world ranking points.

The match will take place on Saturday, November 4 at the Øster Hus Arena in Sandes on the west coast (kick off 5pm, local time). The last meeting between the two nations was 2019’s Euro C Final, which Greece won 56-26 at the New River Stadium in London. 

Anne Haigh, president of Rugby League Norge, said: “We are very pleased to be welcoming Greece. The rugby league community in Norway is very excited about seeing an international in the country once again. After our strong recent performance in the Netherlands, we hope that people will be encouraged to come out and support the team as they take on a nation who took part in last year’s World Cup.”

“It is very important for us to have regular international games and to be able to host matches to demonstrate the international pathway to players in Norway,” Ms Haigh added.

Greece men’s last outing was a 40-6 defeat in Athens by Serbia earlier this year, and this will be their first game outside of country since their defeat to England in Sheffield in last year’s Rugby League World Cup. 

Head coach Steve Georgallis commented: “We are excited to be travelling on our first ever trip to Norway. They have been doing great work in growing the game there and we are looking forward to a competitive game and great cultural experience for our squad.” 

“The Greek Rugby League domestic season will kick off the week before so the players will have a chance to stake their claim for a spot in the team,” Mr Georgallis said.
