Maria Sakkari suffers third straight Grand Slam first-round exit

·

Maria Sakkari’s struggles at Grand Slam tournaments continued with a third consecutive first-round loss, this time falling to World No.138 Elsa Jacquemot 6-3, 7-6(4).

Despite twice serving for the second set and holding two set points, Sakkari couldn’t convert, allowing wildcard Jacquemot to advance.

The Greek star, now at risk of dropping out of the top 100, had shown promise recently with a win over Jasmine Paolini in Madrid.

However, her inability to perform under Grand Slam pressure remains a concern. Jacquemot now moves on to face Karolina Muchova.

With upcoming appearances at the Libema Open and Wimbledon, pressure mounts on Sakkari to rebound and protect her ranking.
