Maria Sakkari overpowers Garcia at Indian Wells

Maria Sakkari has beaten France’s Caroline Garcia in straight-sets, 6-3, 6-4, to secure her spot in the next round of the BNP Paribas Open.

According to tennis.gr, this was Sakkari’s fourth consecutive win over Garcia, who she had lost to in their first three meetings but has since overturned the score between them to 4-3 in her favour.

The Greek champion closed out the set in the 9th game to take the victory in 77 minutes.

Sakkari will next face Diane Parry, also French, who defeated Anna Blinkova 6-4, 6-3 to progress through.

This will be Parry’s first meeting with Sakkari on the tour, and if Sakkari wins, she will secure her spot in the quarterfinals.
