Greek Super League honours Ange Postecoglou for historic Europa League win

·

On the sidelines of the 2025–26 Greek Super League draw, league president Vangelis Marinakis presented Ange Postecoglou with an honorary award, recognising his historic Europa League win with Tottenham – the first European title ever achieved by a Greek Australian coach.

Marinakis praised Postecoglou’s success and pride in his heritage: “Angie has spoken many times about Greece. It is very important for a person to be proud about his origins… With this success at Tottenham, he made Greece proud.”

Postecoglou expressed his gratitude, reflecting on his journey and family: “I left Greece when I was five, but my father passed on his love for football to me… I tried to make my father proud given the sacrifices he made… My father is not with me today, but he sees me and [I’m sure he] is proud of what I have built.”

He concluded with a heartfelt tribute: “I want to make you proud, Greece and Australia.”
