Former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd will replace Arthur Sinodinos AO as Australia’s new Ambassador to the United States.

Mr Sinodinos, a former Liberal politician, was appointed to the Ambassador role in 2020 and has been an advocate for Australian innovation in the US.

At the completion of Mr Sinodinos’ term, Mr Rudd will be sent to Washington DC to commence his new posting early next year.

Former PM Kevin Rudd to replace Arthur Sinodinos as Australia’s Ambassador to the US.

The announcement was made by current Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong in Canberra on Tuesday.

Mr Albanese said Mr Rudd was an “outstanding appointment” with extensive experience and connections in the US.

“As someone who has links to the global community in Washington DC, he will be a major asset,” Mr Albanese said.

This announcement comes after months of speculation Mr Rudd would be selected for the senior posting, despite the former prime minister playing down suggestions he was interested.
