Sydney’s first Delphi Economic Forum postponed amid Middle East travel disruptions

·

A recent statement from The Hellenic Initiative Australia confirmed that the inaugural Delphi Economic Forum in Sydney has been postponed.

The two-day forum was set to bring together policymakers, investors and innovators to discuss the forces shaping the current global landscape. It would have been the first time this intentionally renowned forum would convene in Australia.

Planned discussions were to cover a range of topics, including geopolitics, energy security, critical minerals, artificial intelligence and global trade.

The organisation described the decision to postpone as “difficult,” explaining that ongoing disruptions to international travel caused by the Middle East conflict had left them with no alternative.

“In light of the escalating conflict, a number of our speakers travelling from Greece are now unable to attend,” the statement read.

The forum was being hosted by the Delphi Economic Forum and The Hellenic Initiative Australia, with Macquarie Asset Management serving as Principal Partner.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was scheduled to visit Australia and was a keynote speaker at the forum. He has also postponed his visit due to the geopolitical situation.

The forum’s lineup of speakers also included the The Hon. Arthur Sinodinos AO, Andrew N. Liveris AO, Penny Fowler AM, Ben Way, Michael Miller, Symeon G Tsomokos, Yannis Papadopoulos, Dimitris Politis, The Hon. Steve Kamper MP, Ric Deverell, Arthur Tzaneros, Helen Vatsikopoulos, Nick Pappas AM, John Paitaridis, Louise Bezzina and George Frazis.

The Hellenic Initiative Australia remains optimistic about hosting the forum at a later date and plans to reschedule the event for October 2026.

“We look forward to bringing our community together at a time that allows for meaningful and full participation,” the organisation said.
