Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has announced his intention to visit Australia, with plans to visit Melbourne and Sydney around March 25, coinciding with Greek Independence Day celebrations
The announcement was made during an informal exchange with members of the Greek diaspora while the Prime Minister was walking in central Athens. Speaking with Greek expatriates, Mr Mitsotakis extended New Year wishes and revealed that he is planning to travel to Australia later this year to coincide with the national celebrations of March 25.
Earlier in the day, following the official doxology for the New Year, the Prime Minister was joined by the President of the Hellenic Republic, the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament and the Minister for Health at a well-known café in Kolonaki for discussion.

Mr Mitsotakis is reported to be seeking cross-party support from PASOK to fill three vacant senior positions within Greece’s Independent Authorities.
He has also reportedly asked the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament, Nikita Kaklamanis, to move quickly to convene the Conference of Presidents in order to secure the required parliamentary majority.
The proposed visit follows an invitation extended by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who previously invited Mr Mitsotakis to visit Australia as an official guest, highlighting the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries and Australia’s close ties with the Greek diaspora.

The Prime Minister’s proposed visit to Australia is expected to attract significant interest from the Greek Australian community, particularly as it coincides with one of the most important dates on the Hellenic calendar.
