Greek citizen Ionas Karussis killed in Jaffa terror attack

·

Hamas’ military wing has claimed responsibility for a mass shooting in Jaffa, Tel Aviv that resulted in seven fatalities, including Greek national Ionas Karussis.

The group stated that the two gunmen who opened fire on a busy boulevard and train station in Jaffa were militants from Hamas and hailed from Hebron in the southern West Bank.

The attackers, identified as Mohammed Mesek and Ahmed Himouni, were subsequently shot dead.

The late 25-year-old Karussis was the son of Thessaloniki-born doctor Dimitris Karussis, who relocated to Israel in the late 1980s.

The Greek Foreign Ministry addressed the attack in a statement, declaring, “We unequivocally condemn yesterday’s terrorist attack in Tel Aviv’s Jaffa district.”

“We announce with deep sadness that among the victims of the attack is a Greek citizen, a resident of Jerusalem,” the announcement added.

“We express our sincere condolences to the family and relatives of the victim.”

The method by which the two attackers entered Israel from the West Bank remains uncertain.
